Patching A Hole in the Wall
Accidents happen, and if you have kids, you may find yourself repairing holes in walls from doors that were swung open, or a stray ball that hit drywall. Repairing a hole in the wall is not a complicated process as long as you have all the right tools and a little patience. The tools you will need to repair a hole in the wall are: Dry wall, dry wall saw, drywall joint tape, dry wall joint compound, thin wood shim, string, 3 inch putty knife, liquid nails, and sand paper.
1. Cut a piece of drywall into the shape of a square larger then the size of the hole.
2. Place it over the damaged area and outline the square drywall piece with a pencil
3. Using your dry wall saw cut out the outlined tracing of the square
4. Returning to the newly cut drywall square drill a small hole through the center of this piece and run a string through the
hole. Tie the string to the center of a thin piece of wood that is longer then the diameter of the hole to be patched. The purpose of the string is to secure the wood into place while you work.
5. Place a dab of liquid nail onto each side of the piece of wood that will face the inside of the dry wall. This will help hold it in place while you do the repair.
6. Insert the wood piece with the string through the hole, pull it flush to the wall and slip the drywall piece to the wood.
7. Place drywall tape or mud tape around the entire cut edges. Take your putty knife, dip it into the drywall joint compound and run it over the mud tape allow to dry. Cut the string with scissors, and fill hole with drywall joint compound, again allow to dry before sanding.
8. Sand and paint.
