How To Fix A Copper Pipe Leak

Plumbing leaks are a nuisance that can do a lot of damage. You should repair these leaks as fast as you can or you may be in for bigger problems. To fix these leaks may be as easy as tightening a fitting or you may have to replace a part.

Leaks in copper pipe can cause water damage to many items. Water damage from the leak can rot floors or ceilings below the leak. Those nasty water stains that are hard to cover are the results from leaks in plumbing. Fix problems in your plumbing system as fast as you notice them to avoid bigger problems down the road.

To fix a copper pipe leak you have to find the leak. The leak could be in a fitting or in the pipe itself. There has been cases where there is a pin hole in a new section of copper pipe. To fix these leaks you can solder or braze over the hole. If it is in a fitting you may have to tighten the fitting or replace it. In a solder union or elbow you may have to take it a part. Clean all parts making them bright. Use flux on all parts going together and solder back together.

If you have a hole in a pipe or many leaks you may want to replace the whole section. To do this cut out damaged area with a tubing cutter. Purchase the exact parts you need from the hardware section and cut everything to fit. Clean all connections with a pipe cleaner. When sliding parts together use flux on all ends. Solder new pieces together.
